What to expect when visiting Mount Remo Vet

If you've never been to our clinic before, or if it's been a while since your last vet visit anywhere, it's completely normal to have a few questions about how things work. We want you to feel comfortable before you even walk through the door, so here's a simple look at what a visit to Mount Remo looks like from start to finish.

Getting Started

Mount Remo is an appointment-based clinic. We don't take walk-ins, unless its an animal in distress, and that's intentional. Scheduling appointments means we can give each patient and family the time they deserve without rushing through the visit or keeping you waiting longer than necessary.

If you're a new client, the first step is to reach out to us and let us know a bit about yourself and your animal. We'll find a time that works and make sure we have enough information to make the most of your first appointment. If you're an existing client, you already know the drill. Give us a call or submit a request through the website.

When You Arrive

Our clinic is located in Thornhill, just across the Skeena from downtown Terrace. When you pull in, you'll notice it feels a little different from what you might expect. We're not a big corporate facility. We are locally owned by community members.

When you check in, we'll confirm your pet's details and ask about any concerns you're coming in with. If there's paperwork to go over, we'll walk you through it rather than handing you a clipboard and leaving you to it. We want to start the conversation early, not after you're already in the exam room wondering if you forgot to mention something.

The Appointment Itself

Once you're in the exam room, your vet will take the time to talk with you before anything else happens. We want to hear what you've been noticing at home, what's changed, what's worrying you, or even what's been going well. This allows your animal to settle into the surroundings without being the center of attention immediately. The conversation matters just as much as the physical exam, because it gives us the full picture of how your animal is doing in their everyday life, not just in the time we have together.

From there, the exam itself is thorough but not rushed. We'll explain what we're looking at, what we're finding, and what it means as we go. If diagnostics are needed, we'll talk through the options with you, including what each test would tell us and whether it's necessary right now or something we can monitor. You won't be handed a bill for tests you didn't understand or agree to.

This is where our approach to honest care really shows up. We believe you should always know where you stand with us. That means clear explanations, straightforward pricing conversations, and the space to ask questions without feeling like you're slowing things down. You're not. That's what the appointment is for.

For Large Animal Clients

If we're coming to you, the process looks a little different but the philosophy is the same. We'll coordinate a time for a farm or field visit, and we'll come prepared based on what you've told us ahead of time. Whether it's a routine herd health check, a lambing issue, or something urgent with a horse, we bring the same approach: listen first, explain as we go, and make sure you understand the plan before we act on it.

Living and working in northwest BC means we understand the realities of rural animal care. Long distances, unpredictable weather, limited access to specialists. We factor all of that into how we approach your animal's care, because a plan that doesn't account for your actual life isn't much of a plan at all.

After the Visit

We don't consider the appointment over the moment you leave the building. If your animal was prescribed medication, we'll make sure you understand the dosing, the timeline, and what to watch for. If follow-up is needed, we'll schedule it before you go so it doesn't slip through the cracks. And if something comes up at home that you're unsure about, call us. That's what we're here for.

Over time, these visits add up to something bigger than any single appointment. We start to learn your animal's personality, their baseline health, the little quirks that only show up when you know what to look for. That continuity is one of the most valuable things a veterinary team can offer, and it's something we take seriously.

A Note on How We Do Things

We know that vet visits can carry a lot of emotion, whether it's worry about a new symptom, stress about cost, or just the chaos of getting a reluctant cat into a carrier. Our goal is to make the experience feel as human as the care itself.

We're not trying to upsell you. We're not going to make you feel guilty for asking about cost. And we're not going to rush you out the door because the next appointment is waiting. We built this clinic to do things differently, and that starts with how we treat the people who work here and the people who walk through it.

If you haven't been in yet and you're thinking about it, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out through our contact page and we'll take it from there.
